Netbook running slow? We can help it run faster. We stock parts for the Acer Aspire, Samsung N Series and NC Series, the Lenovo IdeaPad and the HP Mini. The architecture of a netbook is similar to a notebook (some differences in storage media) so similar hardware issues arise motherboards, hard drives, screen issues and battery life. But the principal problem is this: these are cut-down machines with limited processing power. If it's getting lots of use, it's going to need lots of maintenance to run quickly. Otherwise those temporary files, disk fragmentation and unnecessary applications that the internet wants to give you are going to clog it up but fast. They're cheap and they're compact but they'll need regular oversight to keep them usable.
Many people will experience slow performance - don't put Vista on a netbook! sometimes the problem is low end machines with inadequate RAM for the software they're running. This is easily solved of course.
Realistically, netbooks don't cost that much money so regular maintenance might seem expensive in proportion. Our view is that the hardware may be cheap, but your data is valuable and needs to be protected. We can help with backup solutions and data recovery but maybe you're one of the 5% of the population who acts before a disaster? If so, come and see us to establish preventative steps.
If you're looking to buy a netbook, there's a buying guide here. They're fine for basic word processing and web surfing, but not recommended if you want to edit video, play computer games or use processor intensive software. Really and truly, we wouldn't recommend them as your only PC; they're an excellent machine to use while travelling.
